END YEAR SHOW PROJECT

This is just my home made 3D design for a practice to make my street lamp. I didn't use any of the reference image to create this. just straight away in maya and made this model with polygon.
This is the image of ful light model with out the LED I duplicated wings.now I goning to hyper shade and color this model
This image is showing after the texturing I added the LED light this will glow. But I dont actually know how to glow objects in maya so I try to find a tutorial in internet.

This is just I created in maya I took this photograph with mobile and add my model to it I always try to change the light direction of the object and its color according to photograph.

This is just a modern bike rendering. I created this model for testing maya mentelray fro my project. In street light design i used maya mental ray materials for rendering and texturing my model.

END YEAR SHOW PROJECT

today I started with making a presentation on end of year show. Basically what  I making is exploring different ideas and showing how I develop through the project. The presentation was good for me to start with some idea.First years presented their presentation.every one doing different type of ideas but they are stick with one idea in their mind.Neil want to explore 5 different ideas or theme to research other than one specific also for the academic research I have to look the theory of my idea not only tutorials.I will add my presentation here.

second years had more game and character design ideas but I would  like develop skills and ideas on product design field.









at this point I am thinking of to make a car design in 3D model but I don't know how much time it will take to make one because its Little complex.I am more intrested in 3D modeling .

To day I continued my 3D model in Maya to make the led light bulb inside the wing. I will only duplicate after this
This is the Light creation with polygon sphere then I used booleans tool to create the holes in side the model.Then I extruded an inside area of each hole.
I will add the light effect inside each hole.But I never light up (glow) an object inside the Maya so I have to find some tutorial to do that after i duplicate this finished wing.

I just duplicated it for a look, I want to know how the light is looking after duplicate the wing, I was convinced the model is looking good perfect for me at this point.

This is a closer look and I created a connection between wings and pillar with a long tube also wings to tube with a small connector. Now I want to connect between tube and the small connector. I will use  merge vertex tool for that then I merge this small connector with the tube. I wont connect this small connector with wings I will just combine them together because the wing is already smoothed so it will take large amount of time to make connection inside the wing.

After half term today I stated my 3D model in maya with the concept sketch as a reference, I am not making this concept sketch as image plane to model this street light from that. I think that I dont need a image plane to make this street light.
The above image is my street light pillar that i created in Maya. I used curves and surface modeling to create this pillar.I used ep curve tool from maya create menu to create the curved shape and later I converted this model to polygon for easy to use.now I want to ,make the wing I thinking to make one wing and duplicate that to other side so I want to finish every detail in this first wing model.

This is wing model that i made using polygon in Maya I try to use Ep curve tool but that's not too good to look.Then I created this polygon cube and made that into the shape of my street light wing.then I smooth this model. I tried to use different level of smoothness until i am satisfied. 

The curve inside the wing is created with soft selection but that didn't look good enough  for me so I asked Neil for any other way to curve this. Then he told me that I can use deformation tool for curving the model then I used that.
In this screen shot I am using deformation tool to perfect my design.

To day I continued my work from yesterday. Today I will make my concept sketch in Adobe Illustrator and try to add color on it.I started my concept sketch in illustrator with my sketchbook drawings. Illustrator is for vector creation but i like to use it for this concept design.

This is the final sketching that I finished in illustrator.I ask to every one in my class for opinion every one like the design including Neil.In this image I explains How my design will work as a street light. I added solar panel on the top of the wings so this way it is easy to reach sunlight on this solar panels also this is the main source of energy for this street light design but i think it is safe to connect with normal power source's.This solar powered street light will have LED lights for reducing the amount of energy. This LED light will last 10 times longer than normal bulb also less cost for maintenance  

Advantages 

Low power consumption and long and predictable lifetime: The lifetime of LED street lights is usually 10 to 15 years, three times the life of current technologies adopted. The much less frequent need to service or replace LEDs means low maintenance cost.

  • Dimming: LEDs can be dimmed when less street lighting is needed, such as late at night, and at dusk or early dawn.
  • Small package size and weight
  • More accurate color rendering: The color rendering index is the ability of a light source to correctly reproduce the colors of the objects in comparison to an ideal light source.
  • Quick turn on and off: Unlike fluorescent lamps, which take time to heat up once switched on, LEDs come on with full brightness instantly. Unlike mercury vapor, metal halide and sodium vapor lamps (commonly used in street lighting), LEDs do not have a problem restarting immediately (hot ignition) following a brief power failure or inadvertent turn off.
  • RoHS compliance: LEDs don't contain mercury or lead, and don't release poisonous gases if damaged.
  • Less attractive to nocturnal insects: Nocturnal insects are attracted to ultraviolet, blue and green light emitted by conventional light sources.
  • Fewer electrical losses: All other types of lighting (except incandescent) require ballasts, additional electronic and/or electromagnetic components, in which some power is consumed.
  • Optically efficient lighting equipment: Other types of street lights use a reflector to capture the light emitted upwards from the lamp. Even under the best of conditions, the reflector absorbs some of the light. Also for fluorescent lamps and other lamps with phosphor coated bulbs, the bulb itself absorbs some of the light directed back down by the reflector. The glass cover, called a refractor, helps project the light down on the street in a desired pattern but some light is wasted by being directed up to the sky (light pollution). LED lamp assemblies (panels) do not require reflectors and can be designed to provide the desired coverage without a refractor.
  • Higher light output even at low temperatures: While fluorescent lights are comparably energy efficient, on average they tend to have lesser light output at winter temperatures.
This is the advantages of LED light so its very good for today street lights.

To day I was still working in my sketch book trying to sketch some ideas for the street light design.I am drawing some of the designs from my mind.I ask Neil to have a look at this ideas and he like my butterfly design street light.This design is inspired from butterfly wing. This street light design will work with the solar panel. Neil also like my one more idea that design is powered by wind turbine. I like the butter fly design more than the wind turbine powered design I showing below the scanned images of my concept sketch.





This is the butterfly design I selected this design as my final I have some other concept sketches in my sketchbook.I am saying that the wing of this street light is inspire from butterfly not exactly as it look like but I changed it little bit for the concept design.

To day I stared to select images of street light that was already designed or concept.I know that the street light image research will help me to get more different ideas and i can understand how they made this ideas as a street light.When I started to research I under stand one thing that all future concept design are green or reduce energy usage or recycle  the object.

I am showing above is an example of large companies like Philips are trying to change to led lights and there effect in environments.I am showing here some of the best street light concept ideas that I found in my research.
This is one of the most intelligent street light design ever seen this design is very useful for any city roads that nearby river.this light uses led light for saving energy.

This is a kind of design that are help full for earth in future this design working by recycling the battery.

I like this design. more than other two design this is more practical in the world today. I am also thinking to add solar panel to my design and I will try to add wind turbine but i don't think its possible on every place but if some places have wind so easy to collect energy from wind. 
Now I started my sketch book and try to add this images in the book 25 different street light design.From this and other type of creative or organic designs I try inspire from them.But for me I want to create a light that can stand in today's world.So I will add solar panel and LED lights in my design.

To day start with my presentation, presenting to the class, I want to design automotive but I have to explore 4 more ideas than what I presented. I did start to thinking about four more ideas and I come up with these                
1. Automotive Design
2.Interior Design
3.Architect Design
4. Gadject Design
5.Urban Design
Neil gave us new sheet today that saying to research at least 50 images and annotate each and comparing with other images. Hand in as a sketch book.I have to start the research from now to get these images. After 11 o clock, I attended lesson (power point presentation )by Rowena Beigton(Academic partnership manager from staffordshire university) on Reflective practice.This lesson help me to understand deeply how I need to improve my reflective practice through my course and how I can do higher level of standard in reflective practice.From my personal perspective my own reflective practice need to improve a lot, In the lesson she gave us examples of really good learning journal.I read through it I get  some Idea to develop my writing.Also in the lesson she gave us 4 photograph and we have to reflect on it as a practice.
What I understand from the power point presentation ?
I understand that reflective practice will help me to write higher standard RLJ. The presentation explore different method of writing reflective learning journal.


                
This two example's are from my research in my sketch book I have done each of this design ideas and there 10 images with annotation.

this is the designs that i researched on gadject designing section I personally like to design my own creation and create that design in 3D .I will add this design files in my final dvd file submission in indesign or pdf format.I ask my tutor neil about designing a car for first end year project but he told me that car can be made on second year final show because may be there is not enough time to make a full 3D car design also in second year it is easy to get more idea and I will get more experience so now I think this is better idea.so I should change my mind but I have to stay with 3D model not gaming or animation yet.
I have an idea about designing street lights for roads. I will discuss with Neil next week

END YEAR SHOW PROJECT

Today Neil gave us a task. This task is for starting to finalizing our initial ideas for the project. So today I can spent first half of the lesson to think about initial ideas after that I have to write three proposals for this ideas.From  this moment I started to think about the three Ideas that can help me to select a final design I have to submit that before the end of this lesson.I started from my first choice to design a futuristic car but at the moment its not possible I know that but still I think that I can add to my three Ideas.the second one was to redesign the mac computer and third one was to redesign the street lights of UK.

           
           IDEA PROPOSAL. 1

 Redesigning the British street lamps (light). Final out come will be to show the product design as visualization. Animating the design on screen and showing the portfolio (including concept sketches and research).


           
1.      Researching about streetlight, street light designing’s, and different kind of lamp designing’s.
2.      Researching different type of objects that will inspiring to design my concept streetlight
3.      Sketching ideas and inspired themes (rough sketching)
4.      From the rough ideas develop selected concept sketches
5.      Finalize the suitable concept sketch design, convert it into colored sketches
6.      Start to work on 3D model (model, texture, lighting)
7.      Finalizing the design with animation

Designing futuristic city car. Final out come will be to animate the car and show how it will be useful for future city life.

I ask Neil about these ideas and he told me that street light is very good and new idea I was also about to say that I personally like the street light idea from this.In my mind I am thinking of to redesign the street lights of UK so I fixed to design the street light.from now I have to start proper research on my street light idea.I have to select and annotate street light design in sketch book .

Case study
I have to rewrite my case study.I think to make a case study over car design so I find Indian car designer dilip chhabria  for a subject also I wrote about processing of car designing.I always love to do car design i brought a book on this subject that book helped me to write this case study.

Dilip Chhabria is a person who has always thinks about creativity, and a pioneering personality in the field of Indian automotive industry. In 1993 Dilip Chhabria set up Dilip Chhabria Design with aim to offer prototyping services to Indian automotive industry and customized vehicles for the individual buyer. What had started one man’s passion for cars has today evolved into an organization of over 400 designers, engineers and highly skilled craftsmen. In a span of 19 years the company has built over 700 concepts.



This is the car design book that mainly helped me to understand the design process of auto motive designing.

Space Invaders 1978

Space Invaders goes way way back to the Atari days. Japanese game designer, Tomohiro Nishikado, designed Space Invaders back in 1978 where the game was released in Japan. In 1980, Space Invaders made its way to the Atari system and became a legend. It was one of the first shooter games to be developed and many more games have found their inspiration through Space Invaders. 


Pac-Man 1980
On May 22, 1980, the Pac-Man video game was released in Japan and by October of the same year it was released in the United States. The yellow, pie-shaped Pac-Man character, who travels around a maze trying to eat dots and avoid four mean ghosts, quickly became an icon of the 1980s. 1990's more people start to buy game console's. many famous companies start to make there own game console's Play station was launched  in 1995 it was huge hit playstation games start a new look it was very good in graphics at that time Sony play station 2 launched in 2000 this console become most successful game console of all time later 2001 Microsoft developed Xbox game console. all this console come with better and better graphics and controls in game palystation 3 & Xbox 360 was fantastic in its graphic more realistic than any other console.future of gaming will continue to produce more realism.

After this video neil showed us philosophy and the matrix 

The matrix video was an deep understanding of the movie and what they are really meaning,we didn't watch full video but I will watch this full.both videos are really great.For me the matrix video was too hard for first time to understand.

Today after noon we started with other half of the video of Pixar. After watching full I understand that the beginning of pixar animation studios was so hard because back in the 1980s  the 3D technology was just started also much more people wont accepted it. Mainly Disney played a big part in this because first time when Disney heard about the 3D they were also rejected it.Disney was doing 2D animation films that time there are lots of 2D animators there career may be in trouble because of this new 3D animation.

After the video Neil showed us and talk about Key Milestones of the last century that's mean How 3D change the industry or most important achievements of 3D animation and designs in movies.Neil showed us power point presentation.This presentation was about key milestones in 3D. I stated my own research on key milestones of 3D.

Key Milestones of the Last Century

The computer generated imagery goes hand in hand with all history of computer. this history makes CGI effects possible  as seen in today’s world First ever computer generated imagery animation was made back in 1968 by a group of Russian scientists, mathematicians and physicist . it was a mathematical model of a moving cat across the screen

1970's

Back in 1970's CGI was evolved so much and people start to use it in entertainment field.  West world was the first film to use digital Image processing  1973.Digitally processed motion picture photography to appear pixelized in order to portray the Gunslinger android's point of view, This was the starting point of new technology to dominate the entertainment industry.


In 1973 first 3D CGI was used in the film future world.
The hand in the monitor is the first 3D CGI.There is a connection with this hand 3D CGI and todays president of Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pixar Animation Studios, Computer scientist Edwin Catmull. he is the  creator of this hand. It was his own left hand later producer of west world selected this.
After this CGI was used in the film Star Wars back in 1977 by George Lucas  

Star wars come with many CGI effect that were never seen before. Star wars was the first film to use an animated 3D wire frame graphic. This movie started a new era of Technics in film. Audience like the special effects in this film that time it was so amazing.This films special effects was done by Lucas own ILM (Industrial Light & Magic) John Dykstra was the group leader that time.

After Star Wars many films start to include CGI effects. Superman 1978 was the first film to have a CGI title sequence.Alien 1979 and Black hole 1979 was pushing the boundaries further by conceiving 3D wire frame rasters that created more detailed CGI effects.
1980s made much bigger developments in CGI. ILM created the first completely computer generated sequence in 1982 Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan  (Genesis sequence)
Another film was developing this time with first 3D animation CGI footage it was Tron 1982 15 minuts of fully rendered CGI footage including some of the famous light cycle sequence 

Also this time Lucas was developing the first no linear disc based editing system for picture and sound Edit Droid and Sound Droid back in 1984

After this ILM create the first completely computer generated character in  Young Sherlock Holmes 1985

From this time many movie directors star to make or add this new technology for making unbelievable thing to realistic and believable. director James Cameroon made the first water CGI effect in hot Film
The Abyss



The first Digital composite was created in 1989 film Indiana Jones: The Last Crusade.

The character in this picture was filmed with various stages of make up and ILM created the scene and morphed the elements together in digitally to make this shot.Then in 1990 a film named Total recall used a new technology to create moving skeleton in 3D CGI, This technology called Motion Capture.Later motion capture was used in many films.

1991 film Backdraft used first realistic CGI fire in film. Now days CGI become more real and audience cannot  catch any different form what is real and CGI.The first realistic CGI character was created for Terminator; The  Judgement Day T1000 is the character.T2 was the first film to use personal computers in film.Beauty and The Beast was a Disney film. Disney used this technology to create stunning backdrop for Ballroom in the film.1992 Law mower-Man was the first film to use virtual-reality technology this film also used motion capture technology to create movement on CG characters in film.After this there was a film with first realistic CGI skin Death Become Her.
 



1993 Jurassic park was the first major film to use realistic CGI characters at that time this film was fantastic in CGI, so this film become most successful film of all time
from here many film to become characters with more realism.CGI realism become more important in Si Fi movie's.In 1995 A different era started Toy Story become the first full length animated feature film.Pixar studios was created this film from this film there is new 3D animated era started many film was released Most of them was successful.Disney made Partnership with Pixar.With the Toy Story traditional animation film start to end.

The Matrix also made stunning camera movements with CGI. In that film Bullet Time was the best scene It was created with the help of CGI technology.
Later in Perfect Storm 2000 CGI water created to the next level. A custom  fluid dynamics was created for realistic ocean in the film with various other plug in and shaders.In 2009 the biggest ever CGI used Movie was released AVATAR this film was turning point in visual effects.Avatar used performance capture and digital movie making and stereoscopic 3D.this film was huge Avatar take 4 years to complete with the combined talent of Weta Digital and ILM.Many scene;s in the film was stunning and Avatar set the bar for next generation of VFX movies also this  film become most successful of all time.
